In the 1870 Pike Co., GA census, Eugenia is listed as Eugene and is enumerated as a male, but in the 1880 census she is Eugenia and is female living in her uncle Jordan Cauthen’s household in Pike Co., GA. (Note: Jordan Cauthen is indexed as James Cauthren in the 1880 Pike Co. GA census). Until I learn different, I’ve decided to make her female in this tree.
Eugenia Cauthen’s brothers are living with their other uncle, Humphrey Morgan Cauthen according to the 1880 Pike Co., GA census. There is no sign of the other girl, Emma, enumerated under her maiden name Cauthen in this census so she either possibly married before 1880 or died.
